What is PFC ?Firstly, let’s say what the acronym PFC means. PFC states for Preservation of Fluid Collections. Fluid collections, also called wet collections, are an important part of Natural History as well as Anatomical Collections. Specimens were and are still conserved in fluid for research and exhibition purposes, having the advantage of maintain and displaying complex 3D structures of organic materials (animals, plants and anatomical parts) on the long term. The PFC conference was organized for the first time in 2018 by the colleagues of the CRC and MNHN of Paris, at the initiative of Sophie Cersoy, with the aim of gathering specialists of fluid preserved specimens (conservators, curators and conservation scientists mainly) and to share knowledges, research advances, tips and best practices. More than 120 people from 17 countries attended the 1st edition in Paris in December 2018. 36 talks and 1 keynote lectures were presented over the two days of the conference. After the stop due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PFC2024 is intended to relaunch the organization of the PFC conferences, wishing that others will be organized in the next years.
The PFC2024 organizing committee is delighted to disclose the conference logo. The legendary fur-bearing trout in a jar will be the icon of the international conference on the conservation of fluid collections. |
